Heidi Swapp Masks

Today I have a fun little project for you. Since we’re working on our six extra weeks of Winter, I thought we could use a pinch of Spring.

Making Memories has a beautiful line of paper called Flower Patch. My favorite part of the line is the glittery butterfly paper. I wanted to get them flying off my project. And I wanted to add depth without weighing the project down. So my solution was to grab a mask and use a trusty technique.

You can do the same using a Mask from any scrapbook company. On this project I used one from Heidi Swapp. These Masks are already tacky, so getting them to stay on my project while I worked wasn’t a problem. I protected my work area with a Splat Mat from Bazzill. After applying your medium {paint, Glimmer Mist, etc.} make sure you DO NOT leave the tacky Masks on too long or they will tear your paper.

Masks are easy to maintain and do not take up a lot of space.
And this technique is a wonderful addition to any project!

It looks like my butterfly is flying in a garden. I hope you like it!

Toodles!

Flock~ Adding Dimension with FUN FLOCK

December 15, 2008 on 12:31 am | In Card making, Embellishments, Papercrafts, Scrapbooking Techniques, Scrapbooking Tips | 2 Comments

Hey, hey…you wanna be a FLOCK STAR?
Fun Flock
Flocking powder…you’ve heard of it, but have you added it as a staple of your scrap booking and paper crafting supplies?

What?…you don’t know how to get started with it? Well now, we can’t have that…pay attention you are about to become America’s next FLOCK STAR!
Fun Flock supplies
Flocking powder is made by several companies. It is a very fine fiber medium available in a variety of colors. For my lesson on flocking I am using FUN FLOCK by “STAMPENDOUS.” It’s perfect for creating fuzzy accents for your scrapbook pages, cards, or home décor projects. It can even be mixed with glitter adding a sparkling bold edge to your stamped images, die cuts or chipboard.

The simplest technique for applying FUN FLOCK is by making use of The Glue Pad by Tusienko Products and following these easy steps:
Tsukineko Glue Pad and Fun Flock
1.) Using your Glue Pad just as you would an ink pad, stamp your image on your desired project.

2.) Sprinkle FUN FLOCK on the image.

3.) Press slightly.
4.) Let dry briefly.
5.) Gently tap off excess flocking powder.
Fun FLock
6.) Let dry completely.

This technique can be used for free hand or stencil “drawing” with a Zig two way glue pen. Filling in specific areas of a stamp by “coloring” it in with the glue pen is a great option for a touch of texture anywhere. Try it for bunny tails, flower centers, baby animals, or any other application that needs a bit of softness. You can also flock specific areas of patterned paper by employing the same method.

Another method for applying FUN FLOCK is to make use of some great products offered by several manufacturers such as Making Memories or Doodlebug. The double adhesive stickers are letters, shapes, phrases, flowers, flourishes and many more!

1.) Apply the double faced adhesive sticker to your project.
2.) Peel off top layer of sticker.
3.) Sprinkle FUN FLOCK on the image.
4.) Press slightly.
5.) Gently tap off excess flocking powder.
fun flock and double sided adhesive stickers

Die cut accents love FUN FLOCK! One of my personal favorites is QuicKutz. They are great for cards, so cute on scrap book pages and super versatile. Basically it’s the same simple process for flocking as in example one.

1.) Cut out desired accent.
2.) Cover surface with glue. (for my example I simply pressed my die cut firmly onto my Glue Pad)
3.) Sprinkle with FUN FLOCK.
4.) Press gently.
5.) Dry briefly.
6.) Tap off excess.
7.) Assemble die cut image if necessary or use as is.

To intensify the color or coverage of FUN FLOCK another technique is to heat emboss and apply the flocking to the liquid embossing powder.

1.) Stamp image or color in image with embossing ink pad.
2.) Sprinkle embossing powder in the same color as FUN FLOCK.
3.) Apply heat to melt embossing powder.
4.) When melted, sprinkle FUN FLOCK onto surface.
5.) Wait to cool.
6.) Tap off excess.

Chipboard loves FUN FLOCK. It has a chunkier nature on the page, and with its’ abundance of shapes, sizes and letters the end product can be perfectly personalized to accent any project. I have found through my quality adventures with chipboard and flocking it has a better overall look if the chipboard is painted the same color as your flocking over it. Any acrylic paint will do, but I really love the quick drying Making Memories brand. I find the same is true when using chipboard and glitter. The color naturally intensifies with the undercoat of paint!

Now that you are a FLOCK STAR, let me share a few helpful hints I have discovered along the way.
fun flock and chipboard
1.) I love the Craft Mat to work on with flock. It makes it easy to pick up and scoot the excess right back in the jar.
2.) Test your colors, before applying to your project. I really like sour apple green on pink, but it barely showed up. Lesson learned…test it first.
3.) When using die cut accents, use the same color cardstock as you are going to flock with, it gives a better overall appearance to the finished accent.
4.) Glue dots make fun flower centers covered in FUN FLOCK or as a dotted flocked accent.
5.) Red Tacky Tape can be used as a great flocked border or ribbon-type accent along a scrap book page, card, or project and it is super easy!
6.) EXPERIMENT! FUN FLOCK is inexpensive, comes in a big variety of colors and a small jar lasts a LONG TIME!

Hey, hey…now YOU’RE A FLOCK STAR!

I sure hope you all are inspired to add this fun and versatile product as a staple of your scrap book and paper crafting supply cabinet or tote. Hope you share your work in the Memory Zone Scrapbook Store’s gallery!

Crafters Workshop - Do You Doodle?????

December 11, 2008 on 1:50 pm | In Card making, Embellishments, New Scrapbooking Products, Scrapbooking Techniques, Scrapbooking Tips, Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Doodle -v., -dled, -dling, -dles. v.intr.

  1. To scribble aimlessly, especially when preoccupied.
  2. To kill time.

v.tr.

To draw (figures) while preoccupied.

n.

A figure, design, or scribble drawn or written absent-mindedly.

I’m not sure that the definition is “SPOT ON” when it comes to scrapbooking.  I like to think that I am totally occupied while I have my scrapbooking products sitting right in front of me.  There are so many HOT Trends when it comes to the world of scrapbooking, and “Doodling” is becoming one of the HOTTEST!  Why? You might ask.  Because it is easy!  Anyone can do it…and I mean ANYONE!  I tend to be drawn to the techniques that are simple.

Doodling can be as simple as your own handy work or hand drawn dash and dots, made using a photo safe, archival pens and more.  My favorite way to add doodling to a page is using these wonderful templates made by The Crafter’s Workshop.  Wow!  It seems like not so long ago that they had only a few to choose from and now they have so many that it is hard to choose and more releases expected to ship in January.

Why do I like these templates so well?  For one thing there are so many different designs to choose from.  Some are themed while many are versitle enough to use anywhere.  They are inexpensive, reusable and can be used in conjunction with each other for additional designs.  But wait, don’t limit your self to just doodling with pens.  Use chalks or water colors for a more subtle look.  Inks and Glimmer Mist can be a great medium as well.  And if you have ever seen any of The Memory Zone Designers Work, you will notice they use them for stitching templates, as well.

Be sure to check out entire selection of Doodling Templates in store or online.  For even more information on The Crafter’s Workshop Templates take a peak at what they have to say. Then grab some templates and get started….and HAVE FUN!

Papercrafting Pattern ~The Thanksgiving Table

thanksgiving table lamp

thanksgiving table setting
What better way to decorate your table for Thanksgiving dinner then to spruce it up with your creativity!
Why not make a few table decorations from your scrap stash? All you need is your scrap supplies, and a few objects from your home or the ever reasonable Dollar Store!

Here’s what you will need:

**Creative Cafe paper bag & accenting buttons
**Queen & Co. Felt Fusion
**your favorite Thanksgiving paper
matching cardstock
**Cricut & your favorite shape from one of your cartridges
**water goblet
**and your imagination

{{Now if you don’t have a Cricut you can get some pretty cool shapes cut at TMZ on their AccuCut machine for a very reasonable cost. Or you can use whatever die cutting machine you do own, or buy a shaped paper.}}

I picked up a reasonable water goblet at the dollar store and pulled out my handy dandy Cricut machine to make a small centerpiece for my Thanksgiving table. Some of those basic shapes on the Cricut carts are always a good way to make place mats for any given holiday or everyday place settings. I found a very cool template in a Paper Crafts magazine, “cards, gifts & more papercrafting three ways.” It allowed you to create a lampshade with any paper of your choosing by using a PATTERN. You take your pattern and enlarge it to the size of your project. And then you trace the pattern out on your paper.

With a few special embellishments you can add a place card and a goody bag to the setting without pinching your pocketbook during the holiday season. I hope your Thanksgiving is an art filled one!

Creative Imaginations Scrapper’s Spray~ A Clear View

October 8, 2008 on 10:08 pm | In Embellishments, New Scrapbooking Products, Papercrafts, Scrapbooking Tips, Uncategorized | No Comments

One of my ALL time favorite adhesives is Creative Imagination’s Scrapper’s Spray. It’s the best thing since slices bread! It’s first intention…..adhering vellum without all the see-through mess. Scrapper’s Spray is a totally invisible adhesive spray.
It’s temporarily re-positionable, which means when you first spray it on, if you didn’t get it on your project at the perfect angle you can lift it off and reposition your piece before the adhesive dries. AND…it’s also photo safe!
creative imaginations scrappers spray the memory zone scrapbook store

I wanted to show you my favorite use for Scrapper’s Spray. Some people will not mess with acrylic. Mini albums, embellishments, transparencies, overlays, see-through products and so on because they don’t like the way traditional adhesive shows through the see-through products. Creative Imaginations Scrapper’s Spray is the ultimate solution.

I love to use this spray on my mini’s so I started there.
Get yourself a misc. box to spray inside of. You do NOT want to get this spray on your counter, table or floors. It WILL NOT come off. My fave…a clean pizza box i picked up at the local pizza store. And grab some Grafix Clear Craft Plastic sheets at the store. They come in a pack of four measuring 12×12. These can easily be cut down to the shape or size you like. I cut my sheet in half to make a 6×12 mini school album.

Place the paper or project piece in your box and spray the adhesive on the side of the piece you would like adhered to your project.

Gently adhere your paper/project piece to the acrylic sheet and make sure it’s lined up around the edges. If it’s not, gently pull the paper/project piece away and try again. Rub it all down to get out all the air bubbles. You will have a perfectly clear finish.

This not only works wonders on acrylic, but I also love to use it when I’m adhering paper to my chipboard mini albums. One can of spray has gone as far as making 3 large mini albums! It’s well worth the cost.

Tell me what you think. Have you ever used Scrapper’s Spray?
I’d love to hear from you!
toodles…

Scraproom Remodel part3~ Making Memories Organization

October 3, 2008 on 11:02 am | In Embellishments, New Scrapbooking Products, Organization, Uncategorized | 1 Comment

making memories wall storage the memory zone scrapbook store remodel
One great piece we used in Rhonda’s Scraproom Remodel happens to be the Making Memories Storage Shelf. This is a great wall piece to help you get your embellishments and essentails organized and within reach. All those little brads, buttons, paints, chalks and such are UP- VISIBLE- and immediately at your fingertips. The small Making Memories Storage Jars are great for on the go scrapping. Take down the one you need and toss it in your bag.
making memories tool caddy the memoryzone scrapbok store room remodel

The Making Memories Desktop Carousel is one of Rhonda’s favorites. And as soon as we started to gather all her tools we understood why. There are the usual spots for tool storage. And then there are smaller drawers to hide away all those little tool needs- extra blades for your cutters, replacement exacto blades and so on. You can label each section of the tool caddy- cut, glue, distress, ink. This would make a great addition to your craft space. You’ll find in every room converted into a non-bedroom area, a closet. What does your closet look like right now? Rhonda’s was in serious need of a lift. She had the beginnings of a great storage system. All she needed was to bring the rest of it up off the floor.
closet storage the memory zone scrapbook store scraproom remodel

And to be able to get the doors closed. Rhonda had said if there was too much to look at while she was in her room she would be distracted and not be able to get anything done. I know personally the same is true for myself. So getting a couple of extra shelves in the closet so the build-up can actually get up to eye level is a great start.
scrapbook closet storage the memory zone scrapbook store room remodel

Rhonda’s Quickutz Storage system fits neatly on the shelves in the closet. As does the rest of her Quickutz Binders, idea books, and Revolution case. There are 4 shelves in the closet {only 3 are visible in the photo} and there was still room for a rolly tote and hooks for her extra smaller storage bags.

Scraproom Remodeling ~ Part 1

August 6, 2008 on 11:09 pm | In Embellishments, Organization, Photography, Uncategorized | 1 Comment

the memory zone scrapbook store scraproom remodelthe memory zone scrapbook store scraproom remodelthe memory zone scrapbook store scraproom remodel
We were posed a challenge among the Design Team Members at The Memory Zone recently. Can we pull off a blog that depicted one of those trendy home remodeling or organization shows? “Heck Yeah!” we said! We’re the TMZ girlz. It sounds easy enough doesn’t it??

Well……On a good scrapping day this is what our victim’s scraproom looks like! It’s cramped with all the things she’s pulled out to use on projects or stuff she hasn’t had the chance to put away or rummage through yet. Clean up can be a little overwhelming for a scrapbooker/papercrafter, don’t you think?

So where do we start ? We need a victim volunteer us their room to revamp! And excitedly Rhonda allowed us to use her room for our remodeling guinea pig! You are a brave and deserving woman Rhonda!

After that…..what happens next? Take stock of your room or craft space! Do you have a whole room like Rhonda you have {or can} dedicated to your hobby? Or do you have a closet dedicated {or can dedicate} for your supplies? Some people are lucky enough to just be able to use a closet for all their scrapbooking/papercrafting needs. Review your area and supplies.

Take stock of your current organization products {are they working for you?} and what your definite needs are {table space to work on, shelves to store your supplies}. Rhonda found a very helpful book in the store to help guide us through her needs and wants, likes and dislikes when it came to remodeling her scrapbook room!

“The Organized & Inspired Scrapbooker” by Wendy Smedley & Aby Garver is expert advice for organizing your scraproom needs. You start with the workbook, which gives you a personal how-to on following the book. Your first area to cover, Organization!
Before we get started on updating your the organization of your room you need to work on the “Keep, Purge, Sell” theory. Rhonda started with her passion that seemed to be overwhelming not only her room but flowing into other areas of her home at the same time, Idea Books. She loves them so much she has dedicated the time and money into having them spiral bound at her local office supply store. So begin with the area in your room that seems to take up the most space and personal need. Rhonda took the time to use the “Keep, Purge Sell” theory into effect in her room. Getting OUT the things that you are no longer in need of or haven’t used in 6 months or more is your starting point. It also gives you extra space to work with which you never realized was available before.

And with the Used Item Sale coming up August 16th at The Memory Zone Scrapbook Store, you can take all those items you just stuck in your Sell pile and earn some extra “credit” towards new organization items for updating your room. Give them a call and get your ID number for the sale!

Next we’ll get into the nitty gritty of where your room is going to go from here! You might want to go pick out a new color for your room or closet and make a list of what you have and what you need!
Until next time!
Charity
