My name is Rebecca (call me Becky) Stockman
and I live in Plymouth. I am a wife of one
husband for 34 years, a mother of three children
ages 33, 31 and 26 and grandmother to 6 beautiful
grandchildren and soon to be 7. There are 5
boys and 1 girl and we will add another girl
in April.
The grandchildren are the main focus of my
scrapbooking. We had only 2 grandchildren for
quite some time and I was able to easily keep
up with their lives in scrapbooks but the other
4 were born boom boom boom and I’m so
far behind that they will be adults by the
time I am caught up. I just try to keep scrapping
and don’t worry about how much I have
to do but try to enjoy the process.
I am so thankful for this hobby because I
have had a chronic illness for 8 years and
it is the one thing I can do where I can be
creative and at the same time celebrate the
family that means so much to me.
I have worn many hats in my life. I was married
young and when our children were little we
bought a pony for them. It soon became 7 horses
and we were showing them every weekend. It
was something the whole family enjoyed doing
together. Once the kids graduated from high
school and it became my sole responsibility
to clean and feed, we had to sell them because
my back was bad and couldn’t handle mucking
the stalls.
It was then that I honed my music and started
singing in churches all over Indiana and Michigan.
I did that for almost 10 years until my health
once more took a plunge for the worst.
In the last 8 years I have spent many hours
at the finest doctor’s in the country
with no good answers for a back with degenerating
discs. As I write this I have just returned
from Mayo Clinic with some new diagnoses such
as peripheral neuropathy in both feet, diabetes,
sleep deprivation and sleep apnea. I also need
to lose weight which is no shock to me.
Scrapbooking remains the thing that takes me
away into a world where health is forgotten and
beautiful paper, fonts, the newest embellishment
and pictures of the people I love take over and
take me to a world where only those who scrapbook
can understand.
